Brian has been with the NVCSS Board of Directors for 15 years, and almost 10 of those years have been as the President. During this same time, Brian has been involved in a number of other committees and Boards within the communities that we serve. These include serving as the chairperson for a number of years with the School District #91 Board of Directors. Brian has also been very involved with the Nad’leh Bun Watershed Enhancement Society in the Fraser Lake area. He continues to be a very important member of our Board of Directors. Brian brings a special talent for public and media relations, and is counted on to liaise with politicians due to his knowledge in these areas.
We have benefited from the expertise of the Assistant Superintendant of School District #91, who has been a board member at NVCSS, and worked with School District #91, for over 20 dedicated years. Charlene has also been a Board member with other community service organizations over the years, and has approximately 25 years of experience working in collaboration with ministries and agencies, both at the local and regional levels, in support of children and families. Her connections in, and knowledge of, the community has been invaluable in assisting us in planning wisely, mobilizing community support and leveraging on other community initiatives. Charlene is an invaluable asset to our Board of Director, and to the communities that we serve. “I appreciate being on the NVCSS board because it gives me an opportunity to contribute to the lives and welfare of a wide range of community members,” says Charlene.
Rick has been in Vanderhoof since 1998 and first moved to the community to take on the role of Accounting Administrator for NVCSS. Rick enjoyed that role for approximately 8 years. A short time after resigning from his accounting position at NVCSS, Rick joined the Board of Directors and has since played a pivotal role. Prior to coming to NVCSS, Rick was both the secretary treasurer for the Lions Club and for the Men’s Slow Pitch League in Armstrong, BC. Rick’s knowledge of the history of NVCSS, and his expertise in unionized payrolls and accounting practices, has proven incredibly valuable for the Executive Director, the Society, and thus the communities at large. Rick is often asked to participate in finance meetings with our funders, and happily and with knowledge, participates in these tasks.
Polly has been involved with NVCSS since 1995. She was first hired to work with the CAPC and Home Support programs, and was later hired as the Administrative Support person for the agency. Since leaving NVCSS in 2000, Polly has worked in Human Resources for the Northern Health Authority with a Community Portfolio, thus providing her with the necessary background to fulfill her position as a contributing member of the Board of Directors at NVCSS. Polly joined the Board of Directors a year after leaving NVCSS and has been actively involved in the strategic direction of the agency. Polly advised that she has lived in Vanderhoof her whole life, which gives her a special interest in community affairs and the betterment of the Omineca Lakes service catchment area.
Kevin has been with the Board since 2002 and prior to that worked as the NVCSS Home Support Manager in the Vanderhoof office. Kevin is currently employed as the Deputy Administrator for the District of Fort St. James. Kevin brings a particularly strong policy analysis and navigation around zoning and by-law issues to our Board. This has been invaluable, in particular, during CARF accreditation and building purchases. In addition, Kevin is involved, and lives, in the community of Fort St. James, and this perspective ensures that issues affecting Fort St. James are brought to the Board’s attention. When asked to comment on what he valued about being involved in the Board of Directors, Kevin stated “I appreciate the opportunity to work with NVCSS’ team of dedicated professionals who provide vital services to our communities.” Kevin also brings a very witty sense of humour to our Board, which can assist us to get through those long, policy-driven, meetings.
Pam has lived and worked in the community of Vanderhoof for many years and first started as a teacher. Since that time, Pam has gained much education with obtaining 2 Master’s Degrees – one in Administration and Curriculum, and one in Educational Counselling. Pam brings her expertise as a past Chair of the Special Education Association and current School District #91 counsellor to her role as a director on the Board at NVCSS. Pam provides insight into the long term effects that burn out and tertiary trauma can bring to font line workers after years of working in such a difficult line of work. This is an important perspective and Pam is dedicated to keeping the self-care of NVCSS’ staff front and centre in all of the work that we do. This, in turn, has assisted NVCSS in maintaining a commitment to long term healthy and retained staff.
