Nechako Valley Organics

What is Nechako Valley Organics?

Nechako Valley Organics is a 20x40 foot greenhouse providing fresh organic vegetables with most of the produce going to NeighbourLink for their weekly lunches and food hamper. The greenhouse currently provides 11 persons with disabilities meaningful, fun employment. Duties performed by our clients include the initial construction of the greenhouse as well as all the raised beds, planting, watering, weeding, fertilizing and harvesting. The project is also a way of stepping up to the Provincial Governments “10 x 10 Challenge,” which is to increase the employment rate of persons with disabilities by 10% by 2010.

Nechako Valley Local Foods is now at the Farmers Market!

Thanks to the support of Nechako Valley Community Services and the Vancouver Foundation, Nechako Valley Local Foods is bringing organically grown vegetables to our local Farmers Market. The vegetables are grown in our greenhouse, located next to The Bean on Burrard, and are planted, tended, harvested and sold by the people we serve in our community. In addition, there are handmade wood products for sale!

The Farmers Market runs from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at Riverside Park. Come check it out!

Who makes it possible?

The project is being funded by Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society, Integris Credit Union Community Foundation and is community partners with Measuring Up 2010 Legacies Now. Nechako Valley Organics received huge community support with donations from: Rio Tinto Alcan, Dr. P. Collard Inc, Dave’s Auto Electric, Slocan-Plateau, A & W, Lazer Transport, Co-Op, Pitka Logging, The Wolf, BID Construction, Atikins Greenhouses, Sherri Irvine, and Cpl. Marion Davis.

There are many other volunteers and donators that continue to make this a viable project both in the present and in the future.
