A full organic coffee menu including latte, espresso, cappuccino and brewed coffee is available in addition to organic teas, chai tea and fruit smoothies. On occasion free musical performances will be featured, so please keep checking our events calendar. Free wireless internet is available as well as cozy reading areas for those who would like to surf the net or relax with a favourite book. We also have a room in the coffee house with a board room style table that can be booked for gatherings and meetings. We've had interest from book clubs, non-profits and community orientated groups. Use of the space is free, but you will need to book it in advance by calling the Bean or dropping by and signing up for the room.
The Bean is a social enterprise business run by Nechako Valley Community Services Society. Our primary objective is to provide employment for adults with special needs accompanied with support staff in order to provide a greater level of employment and further integration into the community for individuals who are often significantly underemployed and isolated.
The Coffee We Serve
The coffee that The Bean will be featuring is Café Femenino, the only coffee in the world that is grown and marketed solely by collectives of women farmers in Peru, Columbia, Guatemala and Mexico. The women farmers are paid above fair traded market price for their beans. These collectives ensure that the proceeds from their work stay in their communities: furthering the education of their children, building safe water supply and contributing to their overall wellbeing. The increase of economic security in these poor farmer communities has resulted in a shift in gender relations, where families are working more co-operatively with each other and violence has decreased. For more information about Café Femenino go to their website http://www.cafefemenino.com/ or ask the staff at The Bean to show the documentary "Strong Coffee: The Story of Café Femenino" on one of our laptops.Who We Are
